This video is from their site. It sounds cliche to say "a unit that does it all" - but in this case it might possibly be accurate. This V500 took all the perfect characteristics from just about every GPS and rolled them into 1 unit. Touch screen, pre-loaded layouts, no annual fees, accuracy, substantial database of course, like pretty much all US courses are already in right here. So it does it all.
Saturday I had a opportunity to play 9 holes with the V500. In the parking lot while finding my shoes and so on. organized I turned it on and it picked up satellite repair in a minute or so. Rather than select my course from the preloaded course list, implemented the Search function on the major screen. The course I was at came up in about ten seconds or less.
I rode a golf cart and made use of a drink holder cart mount, which match the drink holder really securely and kept the V500 in plain view at all occasions- a few instances I took it out to the ball with me in my pocket and it was particularly unobtrusive. Even with the golf cart, and straying all more than the fairway, the Automatic Hole Advance worked 100% of the time, by the time we got to the subsequent tee it had advanced. Extremely trustworthy.
But- this needed entering the score ahead of leaving the greenside place- if the hole advanced ahead of entering the score I merely had to hit the 'back' button as soon as to back up one screen- and enter the score for the last hole, then hitting the next hole button. Some thing I simply adjusted to. After having in the cart, bring up the scorecard and enter the score- a total of two touches on the touch screen. (I implemented the regular scorecard and not the 'pro' version where sand saves etc are entered for later analysis.) Entering the score just before leaving the green takes all of two touches on the touch screen, (touch "Score" icon, then touch the number of strokes) taking only a couple of additional seconds before driving to the next tee box.
Due to the fact it was a new unit- I continually compared the yardages against known spots on the course (150 and 100 marks, marked sprinkler head, and so on). The yardages were correct on 100%. On a single par three the whole group necessary to use my yardage because there was absolutely no marker on the tee area. All 4 in the group chose the correct club (not all hit the green even though they all had the ideal distance!) based on the V500 yardage.
I made use of the "Touch Point" yardage function a couple of instances, as soon as for a layup and when about a lengthy dog leg ideal where I could not see the green and require to program the subsequent 2 shots. This function is particularly potent and helped me get to both of these greens in regulation.
Pros-
1) Preloaded - which means I am done paying for this and do not have to pay charges for the subsequent three years.- I required to take a membership which was free of charge and also gave me a free satellite package just for signing up.
two) Complete color layout with lots of detail, the walking man icon shows you specifically where 'you' are on the fairway at any given point in time, correct yardages, easy touch screen.
3) Fits nicely in my cart mount, and also in the pocket. Conveniently operated with one particular hand.
Cons-
The only 'con' is that I did not have the time on the backlight set to final longer than 15 seconds (decide on from 15-30-60 seconds, or "frequently on") so I had to hit the touch screen to turn the light back on. When I did this I activated the 'touch point' function and had to wait five seconds for the screen to return to the standard view. I learned to tap the best of the screen to light it up with no activating any of the characteristics. When the backlight is off it isn't effortless to see the screen in the vibrant sun, but it's completely viewable in vivid sun when the backlight is on.
I have not attempted the satellite view but or the flyover, but at this point I give it 5 stars.
I play a lot of golf. I have owned two numerous Laser Rangefinders and I am on my third GPS as the technologies has evolved. Lasers are extremely accurate in theory - but unreliable in actual use considering that I cannot get the hang of aiming at the tiny flagstick from over 100 yards out, which is where I genuinely require it. Because of this I was an early adopter of GPS- loved the ease of use but I hated the annual fees, and just after my initially GPS I went with a no fee Sonocaddie, but nonetheless the downloading was a tiny awkward.
This time I looked for a pre-loaded unit, one with a large course list and no costs...this Sonocaddie comes preloaded with the actual layouts of most if not all US courses. The courses are in there currently- you do not have to download and for me this is a Big plus.
I took advantage of the no cost satellite pictures but I generally would not spend for them. What I require is the full layouts and precise distances, and the Sonocaddie yardages are often inside two-three yards compared to the course markers. In truth I do not even appear for the markers any additional. I adore it when they move the tee box but not the yardage plaque on Par 3's, the other individuals in my group are suddenly my ideal friends!
This GPS is pricey, but I can't say sufficient really good issues about it, and as lengthy as I have all my course layouts without having downloading and the good touch screen distances and so on. it is worth every single penny compared to the other $300-$400+ units. This Sonocaddie V500 is by far the ideal- my frustration level is down and so is my score.
