6/26/09 update: Immediately after using the device for 3 rounds, the battery would no longer hold a charge lengthy enough to get thru a full round. It quit on the 3rd hole twice in a row. I can see why folks aren't happy with this item. Bushnell will probably be terrific with optics but their computer software capabilities leave a lot to be desired. It took me additional than two hours to figure out how to install the computer software and get it working following I had downloaded it from the Bushnell net website. The download offers you a .zip file and then it is all trial and error from there. The documentation that comes with the product isn't even close. And the computer software for down-loading golf course information still does not operate the way it should really on my Pc. In fact I develop software for a living and I've never seen something like this. To launch the computer software, I have to go into Windows Explorer and double-click on the .exe file there. I tried to set up a shortcut but it won't launch the software even even though I copied the application path from Windows Explorer. Forget the icon the installation is supposed to generate. Darndest issue I have ever noticed. The beneficial news is that when you have the application running, it is fairly painless to figure out how it functions. And as soon as you've paid the $35 1 year membership fee you can download as several courses as will fit on your difficult drive. The moment they are on your HD, you can "Send" them to your GPS pretty quickly and speedily. The documentation says the GPS holds up to 10 courses. That is accurate but there could possibly be some concerns obtaining to ten. For some cause I had to delete a course to get past 6 and then I added it back. I've played one round with the device so far and it worked flawlessly. It's a bit of a pain to have to manually advance to the subsequent hole but you can do that at any time. I located myself doing it when I wanted to get the yardage to the green. This item does not possess all the bells and whistles of the significantly more high priced units but for[..], it provides me what I need at this point. I highly advocate that you download as several courses as you could possibly play during the one year membership. I don't strategy to renew my membership but you never know. Thinking Bushnell's reputation would make it a sound investment I purchased 1. Soon after almost 14 hours, like about 7 hours on the phone with Bushnell and iGolf, we ultimately got what seemed like the perfect computer software downloaded and then we all concluded the unit I purchased must be defective. Even the professionals at Bushnell and iGolf had a hard time trying to figure out what was the next 'click'. In my view Bushnell was not ready to go to market place but did so anyways. You can't use what doesn't work.
