Consumer Critiques

UPDATE 12/30/2011: Couple much more rounds under my belt with the unit and I like it even more. It is lots accurate sufficient for my ability to hit a yardage target, and it operates even when stuffed in my pocket. Takes a few minutes in some cases to lock onto the GPS satellites from a cold boot, but the issue just works, auto detects the course I'm on, detects when I'm on the green and asks if I want to input the score for the hole, and then auto switches to the next hole as I walk to the next tee box. I assume about all that could be accomplished to improve it is make it quicker, give it a capacitive (instead of resistive "clicky") screen, and make it more affordable...though at nearly $100 much less than I paid these days, it is looking superior and far better. Upping evaluation to 5 stars.
ORIGINAL Critique: Although I think all of these devices are massively overpriced (given that you can get more quickly, larger screen "road" GPS units for about a hundred bucks these days), I did a lot of study ahead of choosing this one particular (and I was not interested in paying any subscription fees). It certainly came down to this and the Garmin G5, which I consider is also a good device.
The predicament I had with the G5 is it is Substantial, like an inch thick at least. It also is not appreciably more rapidly and is a great deal more tricky to see in the direct sunlight. Maintain in mind no color screen of this type is going to be fantastic in direct sun but this a single does fairly great if you just tilt it away from yourself slightly. I had no difficulty seeing it during a round starting at noon yesterday in pretty harsh, vibrant sun. Battery seems great, I've only lost a single bar (out of four) for the duration of a four.five hour (SLOOOooowww) round yesterday, meaning it should really be fine for at least 2 if not 3 rounds ahead of needing a recharge.
So far on the nearby course I played, yardages were dead on. A few also countless button presses required to use the scoring module, but it does perform. The shot distance mark-off functions outstanding, but no way to shop distances for clubs the way I think the G5 does. The scoring and stats module of the G5 is much better I consider...but again, that size.
I wore the GolfBuddy Planet on my belt yesterday making use of the included clip and it stayed put even when jogging out to an errant shot, and under no circumstances got in the way. My arm would rub against it occasionally necessitating wiping the screen off periodically due to the fact I was wearing sunscreen and the smears produced the screen troublesome to read.
The help from GolfBuddy seems good so far as nicely, while I have not necessary to seriously place them to the test. There are a lot of courses available for me, in all the areas about the planet which I travel.
In any case, if you happen to be prepared to pony up this sort of money for one of these, I consider your options proper now are either the Garmin G5 or the GolfBuddy Globe, and if you are concerned with bulk, without a doubt opt for the World.

right out of the box this issue works. Yardage of the 7 courses I have played are spot on. Very recommend this unit.
